Phase I (Early treatment)
Phase I treatment is started during the mixed dentition phase, usually between ages 6 and 10. It addresses concerns like crowding, crossbites, jaw imbalance, and oral habits that may affect eruption and growth. When airway concerns are present, we collaborate with physicians to support coordinated care. Treatment is based on clinical findings and timed to support dental and skeletal development.
Phase II (Comprehensive treatment)
Comprehensive treatment begins after all or most permanent teeth have erupted. It addresses alignment, bite correction, and jaw relationships using braces or clear aligners. Treatment is based on individual diagnosis and is planned to support long-term dental function and stability.
Clear Aligner Therapy
Clear aligner therapy uses a series of custom-made, removable trays to gradually move teeth. It offers a discreet option for addressing alignment and bite concerns in teens and adults. Treatment is based on individual needs and monitored regularly to guide progress.
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) targets improper tongue posture, swallowing patterns, and oral habits. It involves exercises to retrain the muscles of the face, lips, and tongue to support healthy oral function. OMT is often used alongside orthodontic treatment when indicated.
TMJ Disorders and Orofacial Pain Management
Do you or your child experience jaw pain, clicking, facial pressure, headaches, or unusual sensations like tingling or burning in your face? These may indicate temporomandibular disorders (TMD), headache disorders, neuropathic pain, or post-surgical complications—conditions with overlapping symptoms that complicate diagnosis.
TMD – Disorders involving the TMJ, masticatory muscles, and cervical structures. Symptoms include jaw pain, limited opening, joint noises, and muscle tenderness.
Primary Headaches – Tension-type or migraine headaches may originate from jaw or neck muscle dysfunction and worsen with clenching or poor posture.
Neuropathic Facial Pain – Pain conditions such as burning mouth syndrome, trigeminal neuralgia and post-traumatic neuropathy present as burning, shooting, or electric-like sensations, sometimes after trauma or dental procedures.
Post-Surgical Pain – Chronic pain following extractions, implants, jaw surgery, or nerve injury may persist beyond expected healing and involve nerve sensitization.
How We Help
Accurate Diagnosis – Comprehensive clinical assessment, cranial nerve screening, and imaging (CBCT or MRI) guide treatment planning. We emphasize that “Proper diagnosis is half the cure.”
Custom Oral Appliances – Stabilization splints are used to reduce TMJ loading and relieve muscle tension. These are supported by evidence for managing myogenous TMD.
Myofunctional & Behavioral Therapy – Exercises to retrain jaw, tongue, and facial muscles improve function and reduce parafunctional behaviors.
Trigger Point Injections – Targeted muscle injections are used to relieve persistent myofascial pain when conservative care is insufficient.
Topical Medications – We may recommend topical agents such as 5% lidocaine ointment, capsaicin cream, or compounded formulations (e.g., gabapentin-ketoprofen cream) for localized nerve-related or musculoskeletal facial pain.
Botox – Botulinum toxin may be used to reduce clenching and associated pain when indicated.
Coordinated Care – We collaborate with your physician, ENT, or neurologist when additional evaluation or medication is needed.
All treatments are non-invasive and personalized. If you or your child is living with jaw discomfort, chronic headaches, or nerve-related facial pain, our goal is to reduce pain, restore function, and prevent long-term complications through evidence-based care.
Dental Sleep Medicine
Does Your Child Snore or Breathe Through the Mouth?
These may be signs of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that affect growth, behavior, learning, and long-term health. Dental sleep medicine addresses these concerns through early screening, and collaboration with medical professionals.
In children, untreated OSA is associated with disruptive sleep, hyperactivity, poor school performance, delayed growth, and behavioral issues. Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics upper airway by guiding the maxilla and mandible development. Myofunctional therapy reinforces these changes by training the lips, tongue, and facial muscles to support healthy breathing, swallowing, and tongue posture.
In adults, untreated OSA increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cognitive decline. Orthodontic care can help position the teeth and jaws to support oral appliances that keep the airway open during sleep—especially when CPAP is not tolerated. These appliances are provided in coordination with a sleep physician.
